Q Kit Gen 1: Fitting Your Q Kit With A Shaft

Congratulations on your purchase of a Q Kit!

Now that you have your kit, let's get you set up with the perfect shaft.

Note: We've tried to keep this guide simple, but some information is inherently technical. Feel free to share anything with your club fitter if anything is confusing. This will all be familiar terminology to them!

Kit contents

A Q Kit (Gen 1) includes:

  • 1x Q 11-loft adjustable head

  • 1x extra-long 14" Q grip

  • 1x shaft ferrule

What shaft can I use?

Any iron or hybrid shaft is fine, graphite or steel, that is all of these:

  • At least 38โ€ long before trimming;

  • 370 parallel tip (0.370โ€ diameter);

  • 600 butt diameter (0.600โ€ diameter);

  • Graphite is recommended, though steel will also work.

Can I use a shaft with an alternative tip?

You can, but we do not recommend it.

  • Wood shaft tips are commonly 335 (0.335โ€ diameter) or 350 (0.350โ€ diameter), and there are also taper tips, which are 355. Each of these requires brass packing shims and more glue.

  • Therefore, using anything other than a 370 parallel tip (0.370โ€ diameter) increases the risk of shaft breakage.

  • Given that 370 parallel tip (0.370โ€ diameter) shafts are very common, we recommend using these.

Can I use a golf shaft with a butt diameter other than 600?

Yes, and the range that will work is from 580 to 630, but note the comment immediately below regarding the longer grip length.

How does the longer grip affect fitting?

Q's grip is 14" long (i.e. 3.5" longer than normal), so before you assemble the grip to the shaft, check that the natural taper does not require you to build up the shaft at the lower area where it is beginning to taper.

How long should the playing length be?

As a guide, here are our recommendations:

  • Height: Up to 5'6" - trimmed to 37" playing length

  • Height: 5'7" to 6'2" - trimmed to 38" playing length

  • Height: Over 6'3" - trimmed to 39" playing length

The best length depends on the golfer's stance, posture, and arm length. Professional fitting is best, but the above should be a helpful guide.

What about swing weight?

Conventional swing weight is irrelevant with a club such as Q, as it will vary significantly depending on where the golfer chooses to grip.

  • The swing weight will be and should be heavier than usual, and we recommend not even measuring it!

  • A longer grip is advantageous for golfers who want to maximise distance with longer shots and offer distance control options not afforded by normal 10.5" grips.

General fitting comment

Otherwise, the fitting, trimming, and removal of a shaft to/from a Q golf club head assembly are done normally.
