Install a New Shaft on Q

This Guide Applies To

  • Q Gen 1 and Q Gen 2

  • Right and left-handed versions

  • The Official Q Replacement Shaft Set or Custom Shafts

How to Install

We designed the Q head to affix to a golf shaft in a standard way.

This means anyone with experience in club fitting will be right at home.

Simply install in the standard way.

Note: shaft-fitting is generally a quick, inexpensive and straightforward task; however, it requires specialist epoxy glue and tools. We recommend that it be done only by a club-fitter, a golf retailer, or an individual with experience in previous shaft installations. This is why we have not provided a detailed guide to general club-fitting.

It comes ready to install:

  • Shaft: Toru brand, R-Flex, 80g graphite shaft, pre-cut to 38"

  • DuraLock: Pre-installed

  • Grip: Pre-installed

Option 2: Custom Shafts

What shaft can I use?

Note: The following applies only to installing a custom shaft. The Official Q Replacement Shaft Set (see Option 1) already meets all these specifications.

Requirements

  • Designed for irons or hybrids

  • At least 38โ€ long before trimming;

  • 370 parallel tip (0.370โ€ diameter);

  • 600 butt diameter (0.600โ€ diameter);

  • Graphite or steel

Can I use a shaft with an alternative tip?

You can, but we do not recommend it.

  • Wood shaft tips are commonly 335 (0.335โ€ diameter) or 350 (0.350โ€ diameter), and there are also taper tips, which are 355. Each of these requires brass packing shims and more glue.

  • Therefore, using anything other than a 370 parallel tip (0.370โ€ diameter) increases the risk of shaft breakage.

  • Given that 370 parallel tip (0.370โ€ diameter) shafts are very common, we recommend using these.

Can I use a golf shaft with a butt diameter other than 600?

Yes, and the range that will work is from 580 to 630, but note the comment immediately below regarding the longer grip length.

How does the longer grip affect fitting?

Q's grip is 14" long (i.e. 3.5" longer than normal), so before you assemble the grip to the shaft, check that the natural taper does not require you to build up the shaft at the lower area where it is beginning to taper.

Note: this only applies to using your own custom shaft.

How long should the playing length be?

As a guide, here are our recommendations:

  • Height: Up to 5'6" (1.6m) - trimmed to 37" playing length

  • Height: 5'7" to 6'2" (1.61 - 1.89m) - trimmed to 38" playing length

  • Height: Over 6'3" (1.9m) - trimmed to 39" playing length

The best length depends on the golfer's stance, posture, and arm length. Professional fitting is best, but the above should be a helpful guide.

What about swing weight?

Conventional swing weight is irrelevant for a club such as Q, as it varies significantly depending on where the golfer chooses to grip.

  • The swing weight will be and should be heavier than usual, and we recommend not even measuring it!

  • A longer grip is advantageous for golfers who want to maximise distance with longer shots and offer distance control options not afforded by normal 10.5" grips.

General fitting

Otherwise, the fitting, trimming, and removal of a shaft are performed as usual.
