Tee Off With Q

Welcome back to another episode of Q School. Class is in session!

You've heard the saying, "All's well that ends well." It's true in golf, but in golf it doesn't hurt to hit some good tee shots and set yourself up for success. That's what we're going to talking about today: getting off the tee with the Q.

There are three setup strategies for hitting the Q off the tee with different settings:

  1. Tee height

  2. Ball position

  3. Swing path

Hybrid Settings - 17 degree loft

Let's get you set up for success using Q's hybrid setting off the tee. At 17 degrees of loft and a 39 inch shaft I believe you're going to find some very similar shots as you would with your traditional hybrid, which would be 18 to 22 degree of loft and a 40-41 inch shaft.

The Hybrid setting is great for:

a. standard hybrid tee shots

b. working the ball left/right off the tee

c. choosing high/low trajectory

1. Tee Height. Let's get the tee a quarter(1/4) inch off the ground. Just high enough to get up underneath the ball and loft it in the air.

2. Ball Position. Almost anytime you're teeing off you want the ball forward of center. With the Hybrid setting, anywhere between middle of your stance and your lead foot is fine.

3. Swing Path. Hit slightly on the upswing.

*The good news is you will be able to work it off the tee with the Hybrid setting.

Stinger Settings - 11 degree loft

This setting is in between the Putter setting and Hybrid setting. This setting produces the Tiger Woods-style stinger shot without having to severely change your setup or swing mechanics in order to produce that low ball flight.

The Stinger setting is great for:

a. Into the wind shots

b. Firm and fast fairways.

c. Just plain fun to hit.

1. Tee Height. Let's get the ball up to a half(1/2) inch to 1 inch off the ground. We want to guarantee we're swinging up on the ball at impact.

2. Ball Position. The same is true here. We want the ball even further forward than it was in the Hybrid setting.

3. Swing Path. The first two adjustments will ensure we are hitting upwards and outwards when we make contact with the ball.

If you're looking to hit more fairways off the tee, with the Q you've got two options that are going to help you do that. The first is the Hybrid setting at 17 degree, and the second is the Stinger setting at 11 degrees.

So if you want to find more fairways; if you want to starts holes off well so that you can finish them well: grab your Q, tee it up, and smash it!
