Thanks for your question. You’re right — Q has a different sole pattern to most wedges, with more bounce built in. But there’s actually an advantage here, and it comes with a unique way to play that many Q users adopt.

As you’ll know, the traditional approach in bunkers is to open the face, take an open stance, and aim left. With Q, all that is unnecessary — much like with a recent Ping wedge.

In fact, Rick Shiels recently reviewed the Ping Bunker wedge, which he praised for its extra loft and bounce — the same recipe we’ve built into Q. His advice was simple:

Keep the face square
Hit slightly behind the ball

That’s exactly how I recommend playing Q out of bunkers. So yes — Rick’s advice for Ping works perfectly for us too. (Makes you wonder if they were copying Q as they have a longer grip too)
